Descripción:

The study of inequalities among youth regarding access, equipment and use of the Internet is an infrequently discussed topic in Mexico. The perspectives that have prevailed distinguish them as the principal users or as through a dichotomous understanding between people with access and those who do not have it. This text presents the partial results of a survey conducted in the state of Aguascalientes, Mexico and gives a description in detail of statistically significant differences of youth between 18 and 29 years of age from four different socioeconomic levels. The findings show inequalities with respect to access and equipment, but mainly between academic, political and financial uses. This distance decreases in the case of social activities and entertainment. The analysis provides data to understand the gaps that begin during this age period and their possible consequences.
