The aim of this chapter is to contribute to the ongoing international search for "a rigourous, contextualist treatment with an altoghether different story to tell" about the history of Communication Studies, which would be considered "new", and to put forward the peculiarities and common traits that have arisen in Mexico and Latin America as scientific research practices and graduate and undergraduate programs have emerged and developed over the last five decades, constituting what is conceptually known, following Bourdieu, as an academic field.
